ONECAMP 2026

THE DAILY ONECAMP

Exclusive: Design Squad brings youth voice to OneCamp

A group of dedicated Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that OneCamp is youth-led and reflects the interests and ideas of young people.

The Design Squad has played a key role in organising OneCamp. They created the camp badge and helped name the activities.

You’ll see the Design Squad in action during the opening and closing ceremonies, judging OneCamp’s Got Talent, running the Scouting clothing exchange on Discover Scouts Day, and escorting VIPs around the campsite.

Reporters from THE ONECAMP DAILY spoke exclusively to Maddy and Zahra, two members of the Design Squad, to understand how they have helped shape the camp.

‘Our job is to make sure the program is fit for youth members,’ explains Maddy.

‘The Design Squad knows what youth people want to do, and we provide that information to the OneCamp team.’

Scouting is youth-led, adult-supported, and the Design Squad is no different. Maddy and Zahra worked closely with Alexis, the Deputy Event Director (Design Squad), during planning for OneCamp and spoke about all the amazing support she has given them.

‘She listens to our ideas and helps make them happen!’

Maddy and Zahra are no strangers to providing a youth voice. Both are Unit Leaders and members of the Branch Youth Council. Maddy is also a Venturer Scouts Youth Commissioner, and Zahra is a member of the Branch Venturer Team.

Their advice for any youth members looking to get involved in planning a major event was simple.

‘You’ll learn new things and make new friends,’ explains Maddy.

‘Just do it!’ said Zahra.

‘It’s a great stepping stone to bigger things in Scouting.’
