More than 1,000 visitors flocked to OneCamp on Friday for Discover Scout Day.
For many, it was a chance to catch up with their youth members and see how OneCamp was going in person.
Susannah used Discover Scout Day to visit her son, a Cub in O09. OneCamp was his first time camping.
‘The event is great, it’s much bigger than I thought.’
‘He’s done really well and had a great time. He especially loved Discover Splash and the zipline.’
The oval was transformed into a bustling marketplace as Subcamps sold their goods and services for Scout Bucks. Woogles, fairy bread, friendship bracelets, karaoke, nail painting and sideshow games were all on offer.
‘We have made over $200,’ exclaimed Jake, a Warwick Scout from O06.
‘We are selling pop with sherbert. It’s quick to make and really yummy.’
Subcamp B07 took a very different approach to its market stall, which proved just as popular.
‘We have ‘Toss the Turd’ game,’ explained John, a Wooree Scout.
‘For $1 you get to throw three plastic turds into the toilets. If you get one in, you win a stick.’
The Branch Youth Council was operating an exchange store to promote sustainability.
‘We have a bunch of donated shirts from Scout events that we are selling,’ said Clem, a Willagee Kardinya Venturer from B05 who is a member of the BYC.
‘We sold two tables of clothes. The oldest item was an AJ2010 shirt.’
