The Swan River, which flows past the Coastlines and Waterways campsites, is home to several OneCamp activities. It hosts the on-site Mariner activity base, but further down the river near the Perth skyline, you’ll find Scouts undertaking their overnight expedition.
Discover Sailing sees Scouts take boats out on the water to develop their sailing skills as part of a two-day adventure. The Scouts also spend time in canoes and practising water survival.
The mini expedition is hosted at the Pelican Point Scout Hall, which offers breathtaking views of the Swan River right at its door and is home to the 5th oldest Scout Group in the world.
Mikhail, a Scout from Pelican Point Sea Scout Group, was one of the boat skippers taking Scouts out on the water.
‘For a lot of them, it was their first time sailing, but they did well.’
Luke, a Hamersley Scout from C02, said the sailing was very fun and relaxing.
‘I thought it was a good opportunity to try something new.’
‘And I’m really looking forward to taking the boat to get ice cream tonight.’
The special ice cream trip is proving popular at the mini expedition. Barbara, the Branch Leader Sailing, explains that at the end of the day, they take a Scout motorboat to Elizabeth Quay for ice cream at sunset, a unique and memorable experience for the mini expedition.
