Whether you want to be on centre stage in the spotlight or backstage controlling the action, the Discovery activity base is your destination for learning the skills of stagecraft.
While the main stage is the hub of evening entertainment each night, during the day it hosts groups of OneCamp participants interested in learning what it takes to put on a big show.
‘It’s not often that you get to see a set-up of this scale and get backstage,’ explains David, the STAGE Branch Leader.
‘We’re showing them how to get into audio and lighting as a career.’
Scouts gain hands-on experience setting up audio equipment, programming a lighting rig, and operating a smoke machine. While the control panels with its hundreds of buttons looks confusing at first, the Scouts are soon running the decks and putting on a show.
‘It’s a good activity and I’ve learned a lot,” said Rory, a Well Station Scout from the ACT.
‘I’m interested in getting into the audio and music industry.’
The STAGE team has helped how to bring amazing nighttime entertainment to events like Cubilee and Nighthawk to life.
They can even run a disco at your Scout Hall, but warn that your neighbours may make a noise complaint.
